Locations in Charlotte, NC

Dollar Tree, a Fortune 200 Company, operated 16,774 stores across 48 states and five Canadian provinces as of Feb. 3. Stores operate under the brands of Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree Canada. Last year, the Department of Justice levied a $42 million on Family Dollar Stores after pleading guilty to storing consumer products – food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices – in a rat-infested warehouse. “While we are still in the early stages of our transformation journey, I am proud of what our team accomplished in 2023 and see a long runway of growth ahead of us," Rick Dreiling, chairman and chief executive officer said in a news release.

Locations of the stores to be closed haven't yet been released, so it's unknown at this time how many in Florida will be shut down or relocated. The discount chain has not announced which stores will be closed. Dollar Tree swung to a surprise fourth-quarter loss and will close nearly 1,000 stores after the discount retailer slashed the value of a rival chain it acquired almost a decade ago. Your local Dollar Tree at carries all the office supplies you need to run your small business, classroom, school, office, or church efficiently!

“We pulled over to one of the pay slats in Zone 114 where you can pay using a text, and that’s what I did, I use the text system. It requires you to include your email address, and I paid with a credit card. I got confirmation that, in fact, it had gone through,” Kezelis said. Pay-by-text parking may have cost one woman nearly a thousand dollars after her credit card was hacked. A nationwide discount retail chain’s Plaquemine location is one of hundreds that will shut down due to the company’s financial difficulties.

The items getting more pricier will include food, pet and personal care items, though not all items will be at the $7 price cap. Dollar Tree also said in its fourth-quarter earnings call the company would be raising the price cap in its stores to $7. We reached out to the city, and they say the parking company is working with the customers to investigate.

There are Family Dollar stores in 229 Florida cities and Dollar Tree stores in 243 Florida cities, with many communities having more than one. Both women told us their credit card companies believe the unauthorized charges may have been related to their parking payments. "This year, across 3,000 stores, we expect to expand our multi-price assortment by over 300 items at price points ranging from $1.50 to $7," Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling said in the call on March 13. The parking company told WINK News they couldn’t discuss individual customer issues but said we could put them in touch with the customers. – Three juveniles are facing charges in connection to double homicide and hours-long standoff with police in Mooresville back in March, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. Nationwide, retailer traffic tracker InMarket measured a 4% average increase in dollar store visits by consumers making more than $100,000 between the second half of 2022 and 2023, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Bell's Sparrow Overview, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology

sparrow house

You’ll find the Rufous-crowned Sparrow in dry open hillsides covered with grass, rocks, and shrubs. First, pre-mate selection, they sing strong and loud trilling notes slowly which then speed up. Second, when the male finds a mate, he sings a much softer, sweeter, slower song from a perch or while flying. Green-tailed Towhees work hard to build their nest, but sometimes they use porcupine hairs inside the nests for added support, which is surprising and seems dangerous for the babies.

This species is the only native sparrow in California that doesn’t migrate.

Their chests and bellies are white with a dark spot in the center. Black-chinned Sparrows are plain and mainly gray overall but with brown backs and wings. Males have the black patch on their throat, but the females and non-breeding males don’t. Their bills are pink, which contrasts with their gray heads, and makes them easier to spot.

Do all sparrows like the same kind of birdhouses?

sparrow house

As the insect population in my yard diminished, the birds began to spread out into the rest of the neighborhood. California Towhees are among the most uniformly drab sparrows in California but have managed to become a bit well-known anyway. Some Spotted Towhees have a song mixed with buzzy notes and a trill, while others only have a trilling song. The Sagebrush Sparrow, like their name suggests, prefers sagebrush habitats. But they also can be found in brushy areas of saltbush or other low shrubs in the dry interior west. One is bubbly with a mixed slur, chips, and chatters, and the other is shorter and simpler but long trill.

Eggs

American Tree sparrows are long-tailed brown-streaked plump birds with rusty caps, gray faces, and a rusty eye line. Nests of Harris’s Sparrows are on the ground and made from twigs and moss and lined with soft grass. They lay up to five eggs which take around two weeks to hatch and a further nine days or so for the young to leave the nest. Harris’s Sparrows breed in the northern tundra of central Canada and migrate to south-central Great Plains for winter. They can be seen during migration across central US states and Canadian provinces. During the summer, Sagebrush Sparrows eat plenty of spiders and insects like ants, grasshoppers, and beetles.

These sparrows are known in California for their beautiful, mournful song.

Those that breed in Canada and Alaska migrate south in winter to the United States. They are recorded in 21% of summer checklists and 25% of winter checklists. Nests of Song Sparrows are made from grass and other plant material woven together and lined with soft grass and hair. They lay up to six eggs, which take around two weeks to hatch and just under two weeks for the young to leave the nest. Knowing when you are most likely to spot sparrows can help reduce the guesswork with these similar-looking birds.

Dark-eyed Junco

Breeding males have gray crowns, white cheeks, a black bib, and a chestnut neck. Attract Harris’s Sparrows to your backyard in winter with black oil sunflower seeds, millet, and cracked corn. You can find Harris’s Sparrows out in the open during their migration or in winter in fields or other open areas. They eat seeds, fruit, insects, and especially crowberries in spring when nesting, and there is less food around.

An alternate nesting site is also an effective way to keep house sparrows from taking over potential nesting sites of other birds, like the song sparrow. These birds look like house sparrows but have reddish-brown instead of gray crowns of house sparrows. Spanish sparrows are very noisy birds that often make “churp” flight calls, “que-que” contact calls, “quer” alarm calls, and fast “cheeli-cheeli” calls to attract females. When the breeding season comes, they will make huge groups with hundreds and thousands of birds. Just like George Box’s claim for mathematical models, no model organism is perfect, but many can be informative (Bolker, 2014; Box, 1976). Recently, an annotated genome became available for house sparrows (Elgvin et al., 2017).

Swamp Sparrow Range Map

They are closely related to house sparrows but are slightly smaller than them. Eurasian tree sparrows are common in noisy and small flocks, around lightly wooded open countryside. Breeding males have bright russet or cinnamon red heads and upperparts and pale gray underparts.

White-throated Sparrow Range Map

House Sparrows are another introduced species that have done very well and are now one of the most common birds in North America. Spotted Towhees are residents of California all year, and they are recorded in 26% of summer checklists and 18% of winter checklists. You can find Dark-eyed Junco in open and partially wooded areas, often on the ground, and they are common across the continent. Dark-eyed Juncos remain resident all year in the northeastern and western US states and the Appalachian Mountains.

House Sparrows are fierce competitors for nest holes in trees and nest boxes. These are valuable commodities for birds that require them for breeding and unfortunately, nonnative House Sparrows squeeze out some of our native cavity-nesting species. After becoming common in North American cities where they were intentionally released in the nineteenth century, House Sparrows colonized farmyards and barns during the twentieth century. With the recent industrialization of farms, House Sparrows now seem to be declining across most of their range. A small bird, it has a typical length of 16 cm (6.3 in) and a weight of 24–39.5 g (0.85–1.39 oz). One of about 25 species in the genus Passer, the house sparrow is native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean region,...

The best way to find a House Sparrow is to visit an urban area and watch for a conspicuous, tame sparrow hopping on the ground (it might help to bring a sandwich or some birdseed). You can easily attract them with food and they may feed out of your hand. In the countryside, look out for bright, clean versions of the city House Sparrow around barns, stables, and storehouses. Whether you're considering buying or building, the information below will help you attract, house, and place your house sparrow nest boxes for the best watching. If you live near the beach, say in Hermosa Beach or Santa Monica, it's unlikely that you'll have much luck with a bird house.

They are hard to see in the dense foliage, but males can be found singing from the tops of shrubs. Mites and parasites can overwinter in birdhouses and harm or even kill the nestlings. You can purchase some at craft places and lay a few on the ground near the house to encourage nesting. Avoid purchasing any birdhouse that is painted dark or made of metal as they can get too hot and harm birds. House Sparrows are cavity-nesting birds and will make use of man-made birdhouses. Sparrows will nest in a house that provides protection and is roomy enough to raise young.

When the non-breeding season comes, they become paler with more orange upperparts. Females are brownish with pale underparts and white wingbars. We agree that all model organisms have shortcomings, and indeed, we worry that the concept of model organism has taken on so many meanings recently that the term has started to lose its utility. To make this case and emphasize the relevant value of house sparrows as a particular type of model, we feel that we need to juxtapose it with more traditional model organisms. This approach also justifies important areas of future study for our focal species. Advocating that house sparrows be used as model organisms is not simple as many definitions of model species are available (Bolker, 2009; Bolker, 2014; Bolker, 2017).

However, females and non-breeding males are brown-streaked in color, but they also have white in their wings. Sagebrush Sparrows are medium-sized birds that are easier to recognize than other sparrows. Their head is gray with a white patch in front of their eyes. Their back has streaks of dark brown, and they have a dark-gray stripe on their throats.

They also feed seeds dropped on the ground from tube feeders. Clay-colored Sparrows are the most common sparrow you can spot in summer in the northern prairies. They breed in Canada and the northern Great Plains before migrating south to Texas and Mexico. These small, plain birds of the northern prairies and Great Plains have distinctive head markings which set them apart from other sparrows.

Spending on policing overwhelmingly comes from the general fund. While a budget reflects a municipality’s political and moral priorities, police spending can be very difficult to cut given the strength of police unions. City budgets can be notoriously opaque documents and difficult to compare across municipalities.

He was paid $250 for playing the game and did superbly, according to the Lafayette newspapers. Later that year he was signed to play for the Canton (Ohio) Bulldogs for $250 per game. Thorpe then played professional football for 15 years with the Canton Bulldogs, which won world championships, and with the Oorang Indians (which he organized and coached as well as played in), Chicago Cardinals and others.

Called “The American Natural” “the Greatest Athlete Who Ever Lived, and recently named the “Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century,” Jim Thorpe was a Sac and Fox Indian, born in 1887 in a one-room log cabin at Prague, Oklahoma. Because he was an enrolled member of the Sac and Fox tribe, he is usually referred to as a Sac and Fox Indian, but he also had ancestors who were Potawatomi, Menominee and Kickapoo. Charlotte lived for 40 years and died on November 17, 1901, in Indian Territory, United States. She died of childbirth complications and was buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. Shissahecon, (Cheshawgan) was a prominent leader among the St. Joseph Potawatomi. Was Jim Thorpe Irish?

After his professional athletics career, Thorpe worked as an extra in movies, served as superintendent of recreation in the Chicago Park System, and was also quite vocal with matters of Indian affairs. He also had stints as a public speaker/lecturer and even led an all-Indian song and dance troupe entitled The Jim Thorpe Show. He married Archange Chevalier, who was the granddaughter of Potawatomi headman and warrior Naunongee.

So his third wife contracted with the twin communities of Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, that they would consolidate and change the name to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, and that they would build a suitable memorial. Michael Jordans Highland Park mansion, listed at $15M, will soon mark 10 years on the market

michael jordan's house

Featuring a full-size basketball court, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a 2,000-bottle wine cellar, and a private home theater, Jordan's home has no shortage of amenities. Impeccable craftsmanship, high-end finishes, and breathtaking views of the well-manicured golf course create an ambiance that reflects Jordan's taste for opulence. A name synonymous with basketball legend, Michael Jordan is almost as popular in his business ventures as he was on the court.

Carpool violator busted with ‘next level’ dummy

The NBA superstar’s home was built at the height of his career and comes with 9 bedrooms, 14 parking spaces, and some pretty out-of-the-ordinary customizations — including a door taken straight from the original Playboy mansion. Jordan bought a resort-style, 9,100-square-foot home at 103 West Bears Club Drive, The Real Deal reported. The five-bedroom, six-bath home sits on a one-acre property within The Bears Club, a 400-acre gated community with a Jack Nicklaus–designed golf course, about a mile from the ocean beach. Under Bulls and Bears LLC, Jordan owns his house in Jupiter and has expanded his real estate portfolio to include premium properties in Jupiter and other locations around South Florida and the United States. The primary bedroom is a comfortable retreat, but its lavish en-suite bath steals the show. A peek inside reveals marble floors, a barrel-vaulted ceiling, and a soaking tub set into a bay window.

The interiors are no less impressive, with high-quality finishes like Italian marble, bamboo floors, granite countertops, and Swiss pearwood throughout. The primary suite even boasts a private balcony overlooking the Wasatch Mountains and the Glenwild Golf Club. Jordan ultimately listed the lavish getaway for $7.5 million in 2019, but it does not look like he’s found the right buyer just yet. Unsurprisingly, the custom-designed home includes a regulation-sized basketball gym. But there’s also a circular infinity pool, putting green, tennis court, and cigar room, each with Jordan’s signature touch. The focal point of the home is a full basketball court, painted with the Jumpman logo.

The Los Angeles Athletic Club gets stylish makeover

It took two years to complete, six months of planning, plus eighteen months of construction to create MJ’s luxury dream home. In 1968, when Michael Jordan was five years old, the family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where Jordan enrolled at Emsley A. Laney High School. The irony is that Jordan tried to join the varsity basketball team in his second year, but he was 5’11” at the time, and they thought he was too short to play. As one of the most famous athletes in basketball and professional sports, the Jordan brand brings Jordan roughly $130 million annually. Michael Jordan’s current net worth is estimated at $1.7 billion, making him one of the richest athletes in the world.

And outside, there’s a tennis court, a putting green, and an infinity pool with a grass island in the centre. Current homes for sale in The Bears Club range from $5.5 million to $37.5 million, with a property selling in March 2023 for nearly $20 million. The Bears Club offers luxurious amenities, including a clubhouse with fine dining options, a fitness center, and tennis facilities.

Jordan’s next real estate move took him to Jupiter, Florida, where he purchased a $4.8 million mansion situated on three acres of Jack Nicklaus’s exclusive Bear’s Club community. Jordan reportedly spent an additional $7.6 million renovating the house to his particular standards. It’s the residence that he and wife Yvette Prieto currently reside in with their twin daughters, Victoria and Ysabel. Built in 1995, the contemporary-style mansion has 15 full bathrooms, 4 half bathrooms, a regulation-sized basketball gymnasium, a circular infinity pool and a cigar room. The property has 56,000 square feet of living space in total, including the basement and the garage with space for 15 cars, while outside on the grounds are a tennis court and a putting green. Jordan married his first wife, Juanita Vanoy, in 1989, and the pair purchased a Chicago penthouse together a few years later for $3 million.

The local tax assessor assigns a market value of $4.77 million to the property. At the entrance of the private driveway is a grand entry gate bearing Michael Jordan’s famous Chicago Bulls shirt number 23. This level of personalisation is perhaps the reason why the property has failed to sell.

As you step inside the lower level of the Highland Park home, it houses a walk-in humidor, a fully equipped beauty salon, and a gigantic wine cellar that holds 500 bottles. Next to the wine cellar is an exquisite wine-tasting room to complement the wine cellar. The Illinois mansion in the Chicago suburb has nine bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and four half-bathrooms. From the house design, it’s clear that Michael Jordan prefers the familiar clean break brought about by the Mizner Traditional Mediterranean architecture. This architectural design is popular in the Palm Beach area and has been used for the past 80 years.

And while that might sound hefty, as the listing notes, the property has been fitted with every conceivable luxury amenity. The seven-acre estate was the home court for Jordan's Breakfast Club -- that propelled the Bulls to six NBA Championships. He also noted that James has “saved some of his best work for last.” He has broken Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record and led the Lakers to the Western Conference finals just months later. Later that year, he led the team to win the inaugural In-Season Tournament title. During the 1993 NBA playoffs, Richard Esquinas — a one-time general manager of the San Diego Sports Arena — wrote in his book that Jordan owed him more than $1.2 million in gambling debt. Search thousands of Treasure Coast sold homes to get an idea of the home values in your neighborhood.

These include the South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Duke, and Syracuse programs. Finally, in 1981, he accepted a scholarship to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he played and majored in Cultural geography. But while the home is luxurious at best and carries a lot of Jordan’s history, he has yet to unload the property to a buyer. Based on reports, one of the major reasons Jordan has yet to sell the mansion is because the house is too customized for Jordan. On the other hand, location is also a major factor, given that people who can afford his mansion would rather live elsewhere.

He has solidified his presence in the growing city and continues to make an indelible mark on the world of sports and business all over the globe. At least for us here in Florida, Michael Jordan's house in Jupiter is a testament to his enduring legacy. As with any sale, pricing it appropriately from the start is very important, said Blankenship. “You don’t want to be in a position where you are chasing the market down,” she said.

Basketball Hall of Famer MichaelJordan made headlines this week by purchasing a $16.5 million mansion in the Palm Beach County town of Jupiter, where he already owns a home. One of the most celebrated athletes in history, Michael Jordan has continued to make a name for himself far beyond basketball. Jordan's entrepreneurial spirit led him to explore various business ventures, including his ownership of the Charlotte Hornets NBA franchise. Double islands add functionality to the light-filled kitchen, paring wood cabinets and accents with white marble countertops.

Many of them don’t need the cash from the sale in order to buy something new, meaning they can hold out for the price they want—even if that means waiting for years. And they often market the property globally, in order to reach more high-net-worth individuals. We can all agree that the house in Jupiter, Florida, is a next-level-class luxury home.

Over in Wellington — which Dan’s Papers has been covering through its new supplement “The Circuit” — it’s all about equestrian life. Given the show season has ended and many are headed back to the Northeast to places like the Hamptons and Connecticut, we were curious how that impacts the real estate market. While the winter season wraps up in Palm Beach, that doesn’t necessarily mean the market is showing signs of slowing down.

The eclectic details spill over into the interiors, where you’ll find a sweeping staircase in the foyer and, in the living room, floor-to-ceiling arched windows, coffered ceilings, and a carved stone fireplace. It certainly isn’t due to a lack of creative marketing; a series of videos portray the home as a trophy property of a champion, and has produced serious inquires, some of them coming from China, Nartey said. Not surprising, given Jordan’s world-wide appeal, China’s love of basketball and the popularity of wealthy Chinese to invest in U.S. real estate. In fact, some recent marketing was produced in Mandarin to market directly to that niche, he added. About your inquiry and other home-related matters, but not as a condition of any purchase. Michael Jordan's Lavish House in Jupiter, Florida: Luxury Bear Club Estate

michael jordan's house

Jupiter has emerged as a favored landing spot for high-profile athletes, businesspeople, and celebrities who enjoy the sunny Florida lifestyle. With beaches, world-renowned golf courses, active night lift, and high cuisine, Jupiter is an ideal location for those seeking a mix of luxury, privacy, and sociability. Jordan is no stranger to this side of Jupiter, as a part-owner of a highly-touted local restaurant. He also owns a prominent mansion in Chicago, which he initially listed for nearly $30 million and has been trying to sell for the past decade. Jordan has owned affluent property all over the country, including Utah and North Carolina. A contemporary take on a Mediterranean villa, the exterior features white stucco walls, Roman arcades, and balconies with wrought iron details.

Jordan's Bulls teammates used to work out there every morning, according to an interview shared by Concierge Auctions.

The sprawling property sits on 3 acres and is surrounded by tall trees and lush landscape, to protect the baseball legend’s privacy. Michael owns a 6-bedroom lakefront home in Cornelius, NC, and another luxury condo in downtown Charlotte. He picked up two large properties in North Carolina, a state dear to his heart for several reasons. In addition to owning their NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets, Jordan often calls North Carolina his home state — he spent his childhood living here after his parents moved to the Tar Heel State when he was just a toddler. In fact, the more customized the home is, the harder it is to find the right buyer for it. The best example is Shaquille O’Neal’s longtime home in Florida, which bounced on and off the market for years.

Michael Jordan's home is not an anomaly in this community, with homes in The Bears Club stretching up to a total of almost 30,000 square feet. Michael Jordan's luxurious home in Jupiter, Florida, has been a place he's enjoyed for years. Valued at around $35 million, Jordan's house sits inside the prestigious golfing community of The Bear Club in Jupiter. Built in 2013, the property boasts 3 acres, 9 bedrooms, and 10 bathrooms, spanning over 43,000 square feet. With the the total cost of Michael Jordan's home in Jupiter coming in at $12.4 million - $4.8 million for the land, and $7.6 million for construction - it seems to have been a wise investment. Nestled on just over three acres of lush greenery, Michael Jordan's house provides an oasis of privacy and tranquility.

Similarly, the compound also consists of an exotic spa and gigantic pool for some downtime. We all know of Michael Jordan’s love for cigars and gambling, so there’s a cigar-friendly media room in Jordan’s house with state-of-the-art ‘cigar friendly’ appliances. Fitting for one of the greatest NBA players of all time, Michael Jordan owns many houses around the country, from Illinois to Florida, North Carolina, and Utah.

Jordan started playing basketball in college with North Carolina Tar Heels; he practiced under Coach Dean Smith. In order to sweeten the deal, Jordan has also promised the buyer a pair of every Air Jordan sneakers tailor-fitted to the buyer’s size. Although this seemed like an enticing proposition added to the mix, it hasn’t been successful as Jordan still continues to struggle until this day to sell off the mansion. Michael Jordan purchased this 56,000-square-foot property during the time when he won the first of six NBA championships.

A late 2013 auction was not a success, when buyers who were willing to pay at least the $13 million reserve price for the estate failed to materialize. Michael Jordan’s home has a forest landscape, further ensuring privacy in his massive 28,000-square feet mansion. The whole property is primarily made up of separate sections – the main house, guesthouse, the guardhouse, and the pool house. He also famously owned a vacation home in Utah, just outside the ski haven of Park City. However, he also listed the four-acre mountain property — which was built into a hillside overlooking the Glenwild Golf Course and the surrounding mountains — for sale back in 2019 for $7.5 million. Since Utah is a non-disclosure state (which means property sales are not a matter of public record), we don’t know whether Michael ended up selling the house.

Inside, the mansion has five lounges with so many ceiling-to-floor windows for plenty of natural light. Outside, this massive property is surrounded by more than 260 trees and also houses a 15-heated garage space and a well-stocked pond. The house also has a private dock to lake Norman where the family can enjoy water sports or a leisurely Sunday afternoon walk. The family room has large windows that pour the outdoor atmosphere into the indoor space; this also helps ensure that there’s plenty of light. NASCAR Champ Tony Stewart relists sprawling Indiana ranch with fresh price tag of $22.5M

Designed by the legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, it offers a world-class golfing experience and a course that is much different than the tropical layouts you're used to seeing in the Sunshine State. The club features a meticulously-maintained 18-hole golf course, known for its challenging layout and beautiful landscaping. The Bear’s Club spans 400 acres with world-class golf facilities that are regularly accessed by members, which include a number of PGA and LPGA tour players.

A few price drops later, Shaquille O’Neal finally found a buyer in late October 2020, when he sold his Orlando estate for $11,000,000. Sitting on a half-acre, the property offers over 170 feet of direct frontage on the Intracoastal Waterway and a pool, outdoor covered loggia and an outdoorkitchen. The former NBA champion isn’t the only one making big real estate moves, though. Over in Manalapan, a stunning 10,645-square-foot home on the water just sold last week for $14 million. Elizabeth DeWoody of Palm Beach Advisory at Compass had the listing with the last ask of $14.5 million.

The residence measures 7,000 square feet; Jordan had a private elevator installed to maximize privacy. He still appears to own this property, though with his decision to sell his majority stake in the team in 2023, it’s possible that he could also be looking to offload the property soon. At the time, the basketball legend and his then-wife, Juanita Vanoy, paid $2 million for the property. They later invested heavily into customizing and upgrading the 9-bedroom home, adding unique features — including a pool anchored by a grass island. In many ways, celebrities are not at all like the rest of us when selling their real estate.

If its 18-hole championship golf course isn’t enough to keep your attention, nearby hotspots like DuBois Park and the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum are worth a visit. But despite the appeal the home may have to sports lovers, its sheer size and personalized features are likely what’s making it difficult to find the right buyer, some in the business say. And while it is located in one of Chicago’s higher-end suburbs, Highland Park, it’s not situated in a place where celebrities are commonly looking for homes—Beverly Hills, for example. Although His Airness’ listing price today of $14.85 million is almost exactly half of the $29 million amount that he once had sought for the nine-bedroom mansion and its 7.37-acre property, he still has found no takers. And he has clung to his current $14.85 million asking price now for almost seven years.

Michael Jordan spent millions to customize the home to his liking, but individual tastes don’t always match those of interested buyers. After seeing the house Jordan’s family lived in, he distinctly remembers telling himself that one day, he too will live in a lavish home and get his mom out of poverty. Impressive as it may be, MJ’s house seems to have had the biggest impact on Derrick Rose — the only other player in Bulls franchise history (besides Jordan) to win both the Rookie of the Year and MVP Award. Across its generously sized three levels, Michael Jordan’s mansion has five fireplaces, large skylights that bathe the rooms in natural light, a gourmet chef’s kitchen, and a movie theater.

Most snakes do not need much space or time outside of their enclosures (though some do enjoy being held and carried around). Most smaller snakes are going to need a tank between 10 and 20 gallons, while larger but still apartment-friendly snakes may need enclosures that are close to gallons. There are some huge, exotic snakes that are not great for apartments, but most people would not be looking for those species anyways. Tarantulas are great pets if you live in an apartment or small home and do not want to spend a ton of time caring for and entertaining your pet.

Cats

Cats are quick learners and enjoy puzzle games just like dogs. But whatever you prefer to call these feathery friends, know that they make for some of the best small pets. They do require some interaction though so try playing a handful of the top games for birds to keep them entertained.

Turtles

This breed is one of the more energetic, friendly, and loyal breeds out there. The Labrador Retriever is easy to train and enjoys spending time with people. The listing below is by no means a comprehensive list, but it highlights 30 of some of the most popular breeds. You and your family have decided to get a dog, but you’re not sure what breed you want to adopt. A budgie, also known as a parakeet, is one of the most popular pet birds.

Best House Pets: The Top 25 List

The general rule is to have at least 10 gallons for one to two gerbils. Gerbils are much more active than hamsters, so you may find them more interesting as a pet, and they also are less likely to nip. If you keep only one, you won't need a very large cage, but if you're looking for more, this can increase the amount of room you'll need, as hamsters generally need to be housed separately. Hamsters don't require a lot of care aside from cage cleaning, feeding, and making sure they have appropriate items for play. Dogs can do well in small spaces, and choosing the right breed for you is the key to your success.

Considerations for Dogs in an Apartment

After dogs, cats (Felis catus) are the second most popular pet in the United States. According to the American Pet Products Association National Pet Owners Survey, 46.5 million U.S. households have a cat. Measuring at 0.24 to 0.29 inches, the Photocorynus Spiniceps is believed to be the smallest fish in the world. All you need is some of the best fish food, one of the best fish tanks and you’re good to house your aquatic amigos.

Lovebirds

Miniature schnauzers don't shed much, making them a fantastic match for allergy sufferers—although, they do require regular grooming to keep their coat in tip-top shape. Whether you are looking for something furry or slithery, this list of the best house pets should have you covered. Our goal with this list of the best pets was to provide some different animals that would not only be good housemates but also be on the easier side to take care of.

Because they're prone to heat exhaustion, it's best that Frenchies spend most of their time indoors. From charming Chihuahuas to mellow Newfoundlands, we've rounded up the best house dogs to fit your family. "Picking a dog who fits your lifestyle is extremely important," says Laura Robinson, DVM, lead veterinary advisor to Pawp. She explains that just because some breeds are cute or fun doesn't necessarily mean they're a great fit for your particular home. For example, if your schedule doesn't accommodate a Siberian husky's exercise needs, he may become bored and pick up some undesirable, destructive behaviors.

Furthermore, some smaller varieties may only need five gallons, which makes them really great pets if you do not have a ton of space to offer. Rats are generally a bit bigger than mice, but they still make great apartment pets. They are also extremely smart creatures and can even be taught tricks. Because rats are social creatures, you generally want to have at least two. You should provide your rats with at least 2 cubic feet per rat, but of course, the more space you can offer, the better.

Hermit Crabs

Ball pythons and corn snakes are two snake types that lots of people love to have. This tiny but mighty breed loves being around their family and may be an ideal fit for those who work from home or are retired, Robinson says. Chihuahuas are smart, affectionate lapdogs who might not need much exercise due to their small size but do appreciate short, daily walks. Any activity that helps people look outside of themselves and care for others is therefore conducive to sobriety.

If you live in an efficiency apartment a hamster, guinea pig, or even a small bird might be great choices. You will soon find out that there are many small pets that will be more than happy to share your flat, as long as you are able to fit a small cage, a terrarium, or an aquarium in your home. An important consideration when bringing a cat home is whether to keep your cat exclusively indoors. The National Audubon Society encourages cat owners to keep their furry friends inside to protect wild bird populations, and indoor cats live longer than their outdoor counterparts.

And remember the larger the dog, the more expensive he will be to care for. If you're looking for a good house dog that doesn't shed very much, the Siberian Husky isn't the breed for you. This beautiful breed was developed in the unforgiving Siberian Arctic, where they were utilized as sled dogs hauling cargo across the tundra.

Finally, do your research and make sure you’re prepared for the commitment. Make sure you’re ready to invest the time and energy it takes to properly care for a pet. Cats are great apartment pets for seniors, as they’re relatively low-maintenance and can provide plenty of companionship.

"They are typically very affectionate with their family and don't require that much exercise." An affectionate and loyal breed, the Coton de Tulear is just as sweet as she is fluffy. Cotons are outgoing, energetic, and will get along with everyone from children to older adults, as well as other pets in the household. Cotons prefer to be with company so they can entertain and play as much as their hearts desire. These wide-eyed cuties cherish their companionship with their humans and love to be the center of attention, Robinson says. They have a moderate amount of energy and don't bark much, which is a big plus if you live in an apartment.

Did you know that millennials (mostly young adults now) have many small pets? Rabbits are their favorite—with 1.5 million of them in homes. Rabbits used to be pets for kids in the 90s, but now those kids have grown up and still love having rabbits around.

The Japanese Chin is an energetic breed in the toy family known for its intelligence and loyalty. Owners will have an easier time training this breed, although specialized commands will certainly take more time to train. Formal obedience training might be the best option for these dogs. This little guy is known for being very playful and affectionate with their people.

Betta fish (Betta splendens), with their long, colorful fins, have the look of an exotic pet but are available at most pet stores and eat pellet food. Canaries, chinchillas, cockatoos, degus, estrildid finches, gerbils, Japanese quails, lovebirds, macaws, mice, parakeets, parrots and rats. Dart frogs make for the best first pets for children and are ideal for those new to keeping pets as frogs, especially if they’re of the black or green species. Requiring minimal amounts of space, these little guys only grow up to one and a half inches. Hailed as a popular beginner's reptile, these small and delicate creatures are easy to look after and grow up to around eight to 10 inches in length.

They also tend to keep themselves clean and do not require a lot of complicated or difficult care. Mice will also be perfectly happy spending the majority of their time in their enclosure. Generally speaking, a mouse’s enclosure should be 18 x 12 x 12 inches. An enclosure that size should be able to fit on a bookshelf or dresser.

Livestock

And if you happen to find yourself in Tokyo and are in need of a Fifi & Romeo fix, the Tokyo flagship opened on Valentine’s Day 2014. The most popular dog breed in 2020 was the Labrador Retriever, followed by the French Bulldog, German Shepherd, and Golden Retriever. As mentioned, this is a very protective breed and makes an excellent watchdog. This is another breed with a double coat, so regular brushing must keep the coat sleek and clean. The Norwegian Elkhound is another of the herding and sledding dogs known for their loyalty and protective nature.

Common Questions About Breeds That Are Good House Dogs and Perfect for Families

Mice are simple to look after and can be quite fun as indoor pets. You don’t have to take them for walks, but with a bit of training and patience—they can learn lots of tricks. People who like friendly and lively pets often choose mice because they’re just the right mix of sociable and active. When you think about snakes, you might not imagine them as great pets. Cats can be independent and can be left alone for long periods of time, which is ideal for busy seniors. Plus, cats don’t need to be walked, so you don’t have to worry about taking them out for a walk in all kinds of weather. Guinea pigs are a little bit larger in size when it comes to rodents, but they still make great apartment pets. If you do not have a shelf or place to put their larger enclosure, you can always put it on the floor or buy a special stand. For just one guinea pig, you need at least 7.5 square feet, but it is generally better to have at least two as they are extremely social creatures. Gerbils are cute, little, loving creatures that do not take up much space, which makes them the perfect pet for those who live in smaller homes and apartments.

Considerations for Cats in an Apartment

They are extremely low maintenance and need very little attention as long as you provide them with a small terrarium with space to roam and a few crickets a week to munch on. As far as space goes, tarantulas need floor space that is three to four times their leg span. Tarantulas tend to range from 2 to 10 inches long, so small breeds will only require very small tanks. If you would rather have a bird that enjoys interacting with humans, a dove may be a great option for you.

More from The Spruce Pets

If your apartment doesn't allow a traditional pet like a dog or cat, consider adding a rabbit, hamster, or even a little hedgehog to your family. While it may come as a surprise that sober living homes often allow pets, most treatment programs understand that having relationships with animals can be a source of profound joy. There is also a body of evidence indicating that pet friendly sober living actually improve treatment outcomes for people suffering from addiction. VetStreet points out that guinea pigs are not as fragile or skittish as smaller rodents, making them more suitable for school-aged children. Guinea pigs require a comfortable cage lined with paper-based bedding that needs to be spot-cleaned daily and a total clean weekly.

Betta Fish

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wichita Animal Service Advisory Board subcommittee proposes that city leaders require all dogs and cats to be microchipped. Design for Recovery provides structured sober living in Los Angeles, California. Located in the heart of Southern California, our pet friendly residences are centrally located near the beach, downtown and LAX airport. We provide a safe and comfortable base for young men to involve themselves in the community and to thrive as new and growing individual.

There are tons of different types of fish to choose from too, but it does require some consideration and research. Two of the easiest types of fish are betta fish and goldfish because they’re easy to take care of and don’t require a complicated setup like saltwater fish. Just make sure you provide your fish with an appropriate-sized tank and equipment to meet their needs. Some fish aren’t compatible with each other either, another reason why it’s vital that you do your research. If you’re looking for a fairly hands-off pet, then consider getting a fish!

Think about getting one of these 20 great apartment pets for your small home. Taking care of a pet can be a lot of work, but with the right tips, it can be quite rewarding. Some of the best house pets for senior citizens require little to moderate care.

Because hedgehogs are small and easy to care for, they make great apartment pets. They have relatively simple diets and do not require a ton of exercise. As far as their enclosure goes, the floor should be at least 2 x 3 feet, but they do not climb, so you do not have to worry too much about the height. Nearly 6 million American homes have reptiles as pets—and while we’re not sure of the exact number, iguanas are often listed as one of the top choices. More folks are choosing pets like these as they get busier with work and want animals that don’t need constant care. Places like Hawaii and Texas have lots of iguanas, so there’s a growing local market for them.

It should come as no surprise that residents of pet friendly sober living homes experience many of the same benefits. Degus are not as well known as other small pets, such as hamsters and guinea pigs, but their popularity is increasing. They are very intelligent pets and are known to be affectionate with their ownersonce you spend some time taming them to accept handling. Degus remain small, maxing out at about 12 inches in total length. They are social and prefer to live with another degu companion.

Our pet friendly sober living home is the ideal environment for anyone hoping to withdraw from drugs and alcohol and develop a new life. Residents work to develop social support systems and new coping strategies to avoid relapse. Many sober living facilities that allow pets are also specific about which kinds of animals they will allow. Animals who have not been declawed or spayed, untrained puppies, or enormous creatures are often banned. It should also be understood that pets are the responsibility of residents. If residents fail to train, clean up after, or show loving behavior to animals, sober living homes reserve the right to deny residents access to pets.

According to the AVMA, almost nine out of ten American households have a hamster. Chinchillas are a favorite pet in the USA with over 5 million families keeping them. They’re affordable because they eat less, so you won’t spend lots on food. Chinchillas are tidy and can live a long time if you take care of them well, even up to 20 years! And here’s a bonus—they don’t shed much, so they’re safer for folks with allergies. Even though some people might be afraid of hedgehogs because of their prickly quills, they’re becoming super popular in the U.S.
